Debenhams

We chatted with the latest Debenhams ambassador, talking all things marriage, beauty, and how to prepare for the big day.

Hi Sophie! Tell us about the prep for your second wedding

I've been very relaxed with my dress. I decided to go with a designer called Emma Beaumont. I told her what I wanted, and she really got my vision. I really trusted her, and then I didn't try it on until about a week ago. Yeah, it's been very relaxed and I’ve been lucky. I think going to too many different bridal shops is overwhelming, so I prefer to just let them do what they know best.

I think you've got to get a hairstylist that you really trust, because I think hair and makeup are so important. I think a lot of brides overdo it - they get a makeup artist, and they don't actually look like themselves on the day. I've got my sister doing my makeup, and she just knows what I like. For something borrowed and something blue, I'm wearing my granny's blue sapphire ring.

What are your wedding essentials?

In terms of makeup, lip balm is always handy and a little bit of powder is key - you don't want to look greasy. Don't pack too much makeup on because you can get a tendency to just keep topping up throughout the day which results in a cakey look. Also, I love a little individual lash. Just in the corner – they’re very subtle and means you don’t overdo the eye makeup.

Really just enjoy it. And if you can, let your wedding planner take the reins - they end up knowing the best thing to do. And don't put too much pressure on yourself because I was so worried about what the guests are going to think when really everyone's just going to have fun. If you're having fun and everything goes wrong, it really doesn't matter. So just remember that on the day you're going to love it.

How has married life been so far?

The minute I got married, all my anxiety went. And, not that I ever felt lonely, you really just feel like you're never going to be alone. You've got someone to have your back all the time. And with any argument that happens, it's not a big deal because you're like, well, you’re stuck with me now.
