It’s International Women’s Day – and we’re getting up-close and personal with the faces (and brains!) behind some of your favourite female-founded brands. We interviewed beauty entrepreneur, midlife skin expert and founder of Made of More, Jackie Lamyman, on what it takes to launch a successful beauty business in an ever-changing market, her hopes for the future of the industry, and the importance of women supporting women in the workplace.
“I founded Made of More because I was extremely frustrated at the products which were available for me in midlife when I was having problems with my skin. All of our ingredients have data to back them up, and [they’ve been] specifically chosen to help with midlife skin concerns.”
“There are 3 things that we stand for very clearly,” says Jackie.
“I feel empowered when I see clients and customers telling me what a difference our products have made to their skin. I feel empowered when I see other women succeed. The best feeling is women supporting women.”

“One of my hopes for the beauty industry in the future – and we are definitely getting much better at this – is sustainability. At Made of More, when we were designing the range, we chose a tube which is 50% post-consumer recycled plastic – which is higher than the industry standard.”
“This International Women’s Day, my one wish for the beauty industry is that the two words ‘anti-ageing’ are completely obliterated, and in future, we won’t even be talking about them.”
“My advice to any woman thinking about getting into the beauty industry or changing careers, is network, network, network,” reveals Jackie. “One of the things I found when I was founding my business was that there are so many women who are prepared to help you, offer advice, and nurture. Women really do support women in this industry."
“Find people that you find inspiring on social platforms, reach out to them. If they can’t help you, they’ll definitely be able to put you in touch with someone who can. Just understand that you are not alone and there are always women willing to help.”
